NEWSFLASH: Troop 1092 does it again!!
Today was a great day.
The food was phenomenal and the helping hands were exceptional.
As I was leaving it was so nice to see the families make their way to the kitchen. It was a moving moment to know they were there to eat and WE were there to accommodate that need.
Kudos to all the 1092 moms for taking time away from their hectic holiday lives to serve someone else in need!
Jovann, you pulled off another super event!! Bravo to you :-).

Bruised But Not Broken
Hurricane Sandy devastated our area, some more than others -
All lost some and some lost all.
In our last meeting we discussed our Helping Hands Project. The plan is to anonymously help a local family (who just so happen to be sister scouts), rebuild what they
have lost. To that end, below is a list of items that are needed. A special thanks to the girls for brainstorming and pulling this list together.
If you
are planning on purchasing anything on the list PLEASE LET ME KNOW IN ADVANCE so
that we do not have duplicate purchases. I will send out an email and post on
the web what has already been donated.
Please feel free to share this
information with your friends and family, the more the merrier! If possible, I
would like to get this package together as soon as possible- lets set a deadline
of SATURDAY DECEMBER 1 2012
Should you have ANY questions, please let me know and thank
you all SO MUCH for what you're doing!!!

Ladies, I think each of you are very special individuals and have something special to bring to the table. I want you to always speak out and be heard. In our next meeting, bring two letters, one for Michelle Obama, the current firs lady and Honorary President of GSUSA. The second should be to ANYONE you want; someone who inspired you, was nice to you, was mean to you, ANYTHING at all. We will spend a few moments reading the letters. I will bring the envelopes and stamps and you just have to remember your letters.
See you Soon!!

Movie Review
I think the movie BULLY was good. Here are some things that I thought about the movie:
I thought that the teachers and principals didn't do enough to help the children at the schools with their problems with bullies. I also think that the kids on the bus shouldn't just pretend that they don't know whats going on, they should say something. They are bystanders and it doesn't make them any better than the bully. I think the buses should have more control. The children should be monitored on the bus. These types of schools should speak to the students about bullying and tell them how it affects people and their feelings.
These are some of the things I think about the movie BULLY. Thank you for taking us to see it.

Bully
Today, a few of us met up and watched an AMAZING film, Bully. Bully is a documentary based on the life's of everyday families that have been devastated by bullying. As a community, we need to stand up for each other and never let the bullies win. We should teach our children to speak out against bullying and look at how their behaviors and actions affect others. Over the next few days, I hope to post your thoughts about the movie ad bullying.
"I don’t believe in luck, but I believe in hope" - Alex Libby (from the documentary)
I believe in hope and I believe our children will make the difference this world needs - Jovann Dixon

Help Feed the Hungry
Together we can make a difference, 10 grains at a time!!
In our last meeting, we discussed our continued efforts in giving back to our community and helping others. I came across a website that many of the girls are familiar with Freerice.com, the girls were excited to play computer games AND help feed the hungry.
Essentially, the group can play games in a variety of subjects and help feed the hungry. For every correct answer 10 grains of rice will be donated to the through the World Food Programme to help end hunger.
I set up a group account so that we can all play along (parents too). Please feel free to tell your friends and family about what we are doing, I left the group as "open" so everyone is welcome to join our team.
To join our team:
go to www.Freerice.com
search for Super Troop 1092
Sort by Date ( created on 3/18/12, this should help narrow the search)
click join and follow the instructions provided.
Please feel free to contact me directly with any questions.
Thanks

Yumm... I smell SNICKERDOODLES!

Time to clean up
Whistle while you work :)
Whew... what a day, well worth it, now decision time.
We have decided to leave a permanent imprint at the Ronald McDonald House that is only a small part of what the feeling they left in our hearts.
With our cookie money, we have decided to donate a brick on the house that love built!!!
One decision left to make... what will we say?
The House That Love Built
Today we took a trip to the Ronald McDonald House in Long Island NY. The 25 year old house is the 100th house built and has a fitting name, The House That Love Built. Immediatey when you walk in you feel like youre home, its a bright and beautiful envornment filled with welcoming staff and guest.
We had the pleasure of touring the house and taking part in the little hands helping little hand program. We saw the different rooms filled with donated items and warm wish... like a box of hearts in everyroom!! The girls all tried their hands at being chef's today and a wonderful time was had by all.
Our Snickerdoodles received rave reviews and we were more than happy to make them. I hope to go back soon with the parents to make a full meal for the guest.

Let the tour begin...
The play room, filled with toys and costumes games and bright natural light.
Walking through the halls, we saw donations from the NY JETS and a beatiful handmade bedspread that inspiried us all!
The NY Mets have also "pitched" in with a generous donation, The room is a baseball fans dream!
Each house make the blanket for the next house. Welcome to the 100th Ronald McDonald House.. The House That Love Built.
